Molla Shawgatul Alam (Molla Sagar)

Molla Shawgatul Alam, known as Molla Sagar, is a filmmaker, photographer and folk-song collector whose work spans documentary film, photography and cultural research. His practice foregrounds marginalized communities, indigenous cultures, labour movements and environmental change, exploring the relationships between memory, cultural heritage and everyday resilience.
Since beginning his documentary practice in 2000, he has developed an extensive body of work rooted in lived experience and local histories. Alongside filmmaking, he has presented four solo photography exhibitions and has undertaken long-term research documenting folk traditions and oral cultures across Bangladesh. Through an observational and deeply humanistic approach, his films create intimate portrayals of communities often overlooked by dominant narratives.
