Rasel Chowdhury

Rasel Chowdhury is a Bangladeshi filmmaker and visual artist based in Dhaka, working mainly in experimental film alongside photography and interdisciplinary practice. Rooted in documentary observation and shaped by an avant-garde cinematic language, his films look at environmental fragility, industrial change and the socio-political conditions held inside everyday landscapes. He studied Documentary and Photojournalism at Pathshala South Asian Media Institute, graduating in 2012. Photography came first, but his recent work increasingly centres on moving image, where duration, silence, rhythm and minimal gesture do the narrative work. His films tend to unfold through close attention to atmosphere, human presence and overlooked spaces, making quiet reflections on ecology, labour and contemporary life. His moving image work has screened in exhibitions, festivals and art platforms across Asia, Europe, Australia, the Middle East and North America, and he has received the Ian Parry Scholarship, the Getty Images Emerging Talent Award, the Syngenta Photography Award and the Samdani Art Award. He is a co-founder of Daagi Art Garage, an artist-run platform in Bangladesh.
